Our team at New Smiles Dental is always looking for ways to help patients feel more confident in their smiles. Our dentists work alongside patients to ensure they love their look. When gaps are present between the teeth, many of our patients will ask us about the treatment options available. Typically, our dentists in Sherwood, OR, will often recommend either porcelain veneers or composite resin bonding. With years of experience, we are able to make educated recommendations based on your unique needs.

What Are the Two Ways of Repairing a Gap Between the Teeth?

The two fastest and most popular ways of improving the gap between the teeth are with solutions such as porcelain veneers or composite resin bonding.

  • Porcelain veneers. With porcelain veneers, a thin layer of ceramic is bonded onto the front side of the tooth to close the gap. Porcelain veneers are strong and durable and can last up to a decade with appropriate care.
  • Composite resin bonding. Composite resin bonding uses a special material that is applied directly to the tooth surface in layers. It is then hardened with a special light, which makes it stronger and more resistant to staining. This method requires minimal preparation on the tooth surface and offers good results when closing gaps between teeth. However, composite resin bonding is not as long-lasting as porcelain veneers and may need refinishing or replacement after several years.

What About Orthodontic Treatment?

Alternatively, patients with more than one gap or imperfection within the smile may instead want to ask us about orthodontic treatments. New Smiles Dental is pleased to offer Invisalign® treatment, a reliable way of repositioning the teeth with clear aligner trays instead of metal appliances such as wires and brackets glued to the teeth. Invisalign® is a desirable way to close gaps while improving the alignment of the bite and dental arch.
