Find out the Three Secrets to Keeping the Teeth Clean and Healthy
- Posted on: Oct 30 2018
At New Smiles Dental, we often have patients come into our practice with oral health concerns. However, many of the conditions that develop on the smile are completely preventable. Our team, including Drs. Nathan Doyel, Ben Aanderud, and Ashley Bennett are dedicated to helping individuals in achieving healthy smiles while giving them the knowledge they need to take good care of their teeth and gums over a lifetime.
What are the three steps to a healthier smile?
In essence, there are essentially three steps to achieving a beautiful, healthy smile and maintain it over the course of many years. They are:
- Brushing – the most common ways of keeping the teeth clean is with brushing. Using a soft bristled tooth brush, patients should brush their teeth, gums, and soft tissues of the mouth after every meal to remove any food particles. This also reduces the development of plaque and tartar. Brushing the teeth should be done over several minutes and should never be rushed!
- Flossing – flossing is the use of a special dental thread to remove food particles from between the teeth. Patients of all ages should be flossing at least once a day, though after every meal is ideal. Our dentists understand that many patients are unsure as to how they can properly floss their teeth, so we provide education on proper flossing techniques for these individuals.
- Routine dental visits – one of the most overlooked ways of keeping the smile healthy is to visit the dentist twice a year for an evaluation and cleaning. Our professionals can check the smile for any signs of decay or disease, and can provide peace of mind that oral health care habits are effective.
