Air Abrasion
Air
Abrasion is a gentle' "drill-less" technology
that can frequently be used in place of or in conjunction
with the drill to make procedures more comfortable, often without
the need for anesthetic. Thanks to this technology, we can provide
you with attractive, tooth-colored fillings faster and easier than ever
before.
Air abrasion uses fine particles of Aluminum Oxide, 27 to 50 microns in diameter. The fine particles are mixed with compressed air and directed in a stream at the tooth, removing the decay. Air abrasion allows for smaller amounts of the tooth to be removed compared to a
conventional drill. By removing as little tooth structure as possible, more of the healthy tooth structure remains.
Air Abrasion is not ideal for
large cavities or removing silver-mercury fillings. Most cavities that
are detected early can be treated immediately, without a drill and
without a needle. The tooth is then restored with natural looking materials
to strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure. Because air abrasion
is tolerated so easily by children, fewer appointments are necessary.

“I really love the blend of very cool new technologies for treatment and prevention combined with the small town Dentist attitude, including a call from the doctor himself after hours to check on me after a big procedure. We are patients for life!”
